Young Parkinson's - A Growing Pandemic
Category: NewsletterPeople often associate Parkinson’s with aging, but anywhere from 10%–20% of new diagnosis take place in people under 50... and half of those receive their diagnosis before age 40! Called “young-onset Parkinson’s”, the prognosis brings with it a completely unique set of challenges. Young people with Parkinson’s are still building their careers and their families, still dating, dealing with acne, still menstruating or living with roommates.
In our efforts to ensure no one is isolated because of Parkinson’s, PRO is launching a new support group, Young Parkinson’s Round Table, for people ages 30–59. Launching Tuesday, February 28th at 6:00 pm, the group will be co-facilitated by Jo Rosen and Michael Lu, a PRO Board Member and young person with Parkinson’s who received his diagnosis at the age of 25.
