“Drawing on patterns of innovation in a variety of industries, including computers, retailing, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, and steel, he shows how truly important, breakthrough innovations – or disruptive technologies – are initially rejected by mainstream customers because they cannot currently use them. This rejection can lead firms with strong customer focus to allow strategically important innovations to languish.”
Dr. Andrew Grove, Chairman and CEO, Intel Corporation, at the time the book was published, remarked, “This book addresses a tough problem that most successful companies will face eventually. It’s lucid, analytical – and scary.”
In other words, “It is easier for industry leaders or investors in companies to invest in something they are already doing rather than something they haven’t yet done. It’s a mental process of justifying....”
