PRO Wins Spotlight Grant from KESQ News Channel 3 and The H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation
Category: NewsletterParkinson’s Resource Organization is thrilled to announce we are the recipients of the Coachella Valley Spotlight! The Coachella Valley Spotlight is a partnership between Gulf California Broadcast Company (owners of KESQ News Channel 3 and five other broadcast properties) and the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation.
Each 501(c)3 organization selected receives media coverage during a designated month about its mission and goals across a variety of News Channel 3’s platforms including “Eye on the Desert”, in public service announcements and on the station’s website. Each featured organization also receives a $25,000 grant from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation.
Out of 77 applicants, we are proud to be one of just 12 organizations chosen. The grant will help fund our virtual support groups for people with Parkinson’s and caregivers —which are free to attend, but cost almost $650 each to produce. PRO offers 15+ support groups per month for people with Parkinson’s, caregivers, friends, and family.
Most recently we added two new groups for young people living with or caring for someone with Parkinson’s. The groups, for people aged 18-30 (second Thursday of the month) and 30-59 (fourth Tuesday of the month) are facilitated by PRO board members Matthew and Michael Lu. These two groups focus on issues unique to younger demographics, like dating with a disability, pursuing a career, and child-rearing.
An official check presentation on June 1st will be covered by KESQ News Channel 3. Keep your eyes peeled on our YouTube and socials for additional coverage. You can see our full support group schedule at ParkinsonsResource.org/groups.
