MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT -- OCTOBER 2023
Category: Message From The PresidentOctober is a glorious month. The frenzy of the summer months is behind us, the frenzy of the holiday season has not yet begun. Temperatures cool, but they don’t freeze. If you’re lucky to live in a northern clime, the trees put on a show. We in the Southwest finally see relief from the heat. A spirit of movement courses through the air… it’s a season of change.
Speaking of movement: last month we launched our Fall support group schedule – with the addition of our newest Movement class, Chair Yoga! It’s amazing to see so many of you trying out a new challenge. This month we’ll see the return of an old fan favorite – Brandon Rosi, DPT, is back on the schedule every first and third Tuesday to bring you strength and conditioning exercises.
A word of caution... with the opportunity for more movement comes the potential to overdo it. Consult with your doctor before beginning a new workout regimen and always listen to your body. Trust me, I’ve learned that lesson the hard way.
Before I sign off for the month, I want to thank each and every one of you for the beautiful birthday wishes you shared with me last month. I’ve now been on this planet 75 years – and wow, the time has flown! Serving you, the Parkinson’s community, has been one of the most beautiful, rewarding, and surprising experiences in those 75 years. I am grateful for the joy, laughter, and learning you have provided me, and I only hope I have returned the favor tenfold to you.
This month, take a look at HAVE YOU EVER CHECKED OUT PRO’S MEMORIAL WALL?. Check out ROSES FOR ROSEN; FINANCIAL SCAMS TARGETING OLDER ADULTS; ASSSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR A DIGITAL WORLD; HOW TO LAUGH EVERY SINGLE DAY, and; and our OCTOBER SUPPORT GROUP SCHEDULE.
Until next month, REMEMBER Columbus Day on October 9th, Indigenous Peoples’ Day on October 9th, World Mental Health Day on October 10th, Halloween on OCtober 31st. The flower is the Marigold and the birthstone is the Tourmaline.
ALWAYS remember to CELEBRATE YOU and PRAY FOR OUR TROOPS!
