Message From the Executive Director (April 2025)
Category:April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, a global opportunity to increase awareness about the conditions and its symptoms as well as to educate communities about the resources available to them.
Here at Parkinson’s Resource Organization, we always make an effort to bring extra attention to the resources available for people with Parkinson’s through a series of activities and educational opportunities. This year is no different. On April 5th we will hold our Fourth Annual PRO on the Move ‘Walk, Ride, or Roll’, a day of movement and visibility with walk teams in multiple locations. Exercise is one of the most effective treatments for slowing the progression of Parkinson’s.
You’ll also see us at educational events like the Parkinson’s Month Wellness Expo hosted by Eisenhower Health and Alzheimer’s Coachella Valley, at a special support group on April 11th in Yucca Valley, and we have a few more surprises up our sleeves for later in the month.
Additionally, you may hear us on the radio or see us on television with a special Public Service Announcement to let people know they don’t have to navigate Parkinson’s alone; that free resources like Parkinson’s Resource Organization exist to help them navigate Parkinson’s.
How can you participate in Parkinson’s Awareness Month? I have a few suggestions:
- Join us at an event or support group. Check out ParkinsonsResource.org/calendar to learn more.
- Make a donation. Our resources are only free through the generosity of our community. Give us a call at (760) 773-5628 or visit ParkinsonsResource.org/donate.
- Like, follow, and share us on social media. This helps us reach a wider audience with our educational, emotional and practical support. You can find us on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube!
- Leave a positive Google review. If you’ve benefited from our services, why not tell the world? Leaving a Google Review for PRO helps raise our visibility and informs others about the resources available to them. This is a great way to support us if you aren’t able to make a monetary donation.
Parkinson’s is one of the most clinically complex conditions to navigate, and it’s also the fastest growing neurodegenerative condition in the world. This April, let’s be loud and bold about the importance of investing in Parkinson’s research, treatment, and community resources like PRO so that no one is isolated because of Parkinson’s. The stakes are too high for silence.
