TELL ME WHY

MY FACE LOOKS SO BLANK

By: David Verdery, a PRO advocate

Parkinson’s Sign #8 –

Loss of Facial Expression (Hypomimia)

Its beginning was very subtle.

In fact, I was unaware

That today I’d look at a mirror

And see nothing, but a stare.

My work is setting deadlines.

They're hard to meet in a bank.

It must be that, because what else

Could make my face so blank.

I saw my doctor on Friday.

I was nervous going in.

She said my kind of blank face

 was parkinsonian.

She asked, “do you know how to whistle?”

I replied my dad had taught a tune

he learned when he was a little boy.

“Would you like me to whistle it too?”

She agreed, so I started to whistle,

But only air was coming forth.

“I want to get you in touch with

It’s Jo Rosen you’ll want to see.

Her team of PRO’s will turn

Your fears to years of life with PD

A better life for all concerned."
