MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AUGUST 2014

Category: Message From The President

Loss, no matter when it occurs, is a challenge we are never fully prepared to experience. In mid-July I lost my dear sister, Carolyn, to breast cancer and thus today I’m batting Two for Two. I have lost TWO to Parkinson’s and now TWO to breast cancer. Both diseases MUST be eradicated. Supporting breakthrough research on Parkinson’s and reporting back to you in “ROAD TO THE CURE” is my commitment. Doing whatever I can to raise awareness and support for the battle against breast cancer is now my heart-centered quest as well.

Our summer recess from support group activity has been anything but a recess for the team behind the scenes at PRO. We have taken the “open” time to actively market our WELLNESS VILLAGE professionals, build our Macy’s “Shop For A Cause” campaign, begin planning our Magnificent 25th Anniversary event at Ironwood Country Club and finalize our “Summer letter writing campaign.” We’ve developed new resources within the Wellness Village; and we’ve added some fabulous volunteers to keep the engines running.

As always my hat is in my hand, asking for your continued support, love and interest in the efforts we put forth on behalf of our loyal community. Without YOU there is NO tomorrow for PRO and Parkinson’s will continue to ravage its victims, unchecked.

The NEW BIG NEWS is about the FIRST event honoring our 25th anniversary! MARK YOUR CALENDARS, April 12, 2015, in Palm Desert. Watch for more information about our MAJOR CELEBRATION EVENT. It will be exceptional and one you will definitely enjoy!

Again this year, August 23 is Macy’s SHOP FOR A CAUSE day, giving everyone interested in supporting PRO the chance to shop for themselves and give to PRO at the same time! Click here: ParkinsonsResource.org/education/macys-shop-for-a-cause/ for details and the Shopping Savings Pass.

Our affiliation with AMAZONSMILE is yet another way to give to PRO as you shop on one of the biggest online shopping networks in the UNIVERSE! We thank you in advance for thinking of us as you go about your daily business. As you know, every dollar makes a big difference in supporting our goal of encouraging Ultimate Quality of Life for those with Parkinson’s.

In this month’s Newsworthy Notes, we continue reporting on “THE ROAD TO THE CURE” and the commitment of the scientists and research teams at the SDBC—“no one has technology as good as ICBI’s technology”.

Our WELLNESS VILLAGE professionals and very special members of our PRO community continue to contribute insights, advise, and information to benefit others. This month is no exception.

Sometimes the connection between a Parkinson’s “symptom” and a “therapy” can be quite unfamiliar and misunderstood. Phillip Davies has a story/testimony that you MUST read! Phillip is a person with Parkinson’s that has experienced goodness from his TMJ treatment. Read his personal story: PARKINSON’S AND A TMJ PROBLEM

PROvocative to be sure, Bill Winslow from Pennsylvania writes TELL SOMEONE.  Our friend Lis Morris Boyt from Medfield Massachusetts writes REFLECTION IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR.

MUSIC THERAPY, PALLIATIVE CARE, AND MYTHS ABOUT GRIEF & MOURNING a really good read from our Wellness Villager VITAS Innovative Hospice Care®

On behalf of everyone benefiting from the efforts of the Parkinson’s Resource Organization, we thank ALL who support us in delivering our message of support, inspiration, education and empowerment. We look to YOU for continued support by mailing your check or donating online on our secure website.

Until next month REMEMBER to celebrate International Friendship Day on the 3rd, and Women’s Equality Day on the 26th. The birthstone for August is Peridot, the flowers are Poppy & Gladiolus. Remember to CELEBRATE YOU. PRAY FOR OUR TROOPS!

Love, Jo Rosen
